Bode is 1 Month!

Bode turned 1 month old on June 8th!

Bode is a bit of a wild little man. He loves to snuggle, but doesn't love to sleep...especially at night. He is a great eater, which is a first for the Barlow kids, and has been wonderful! We love him so much, but we have been reassured that he is our last baby. We are so thankful for our beautiful family of SIX!

Bode is an adventure. He can be pretty fussy, and some might even call him colicky. He often seems like he has a tummy ache, which makes it hard for him to sleep well and be content. He has been our worst newborn sleeper, waking every 45-90 minutes all night long. This means I haven't slept more than about 1 hour in a row for the past month! :( I'm pretty exhausted, but hoping he will get better soon. During his third week of life, Bode gave us quite the scare. He has a choking episode in the middle of the night in which he spit up, but wasn't breathing well (if at all). He was rigid and arching, and his eyes were bugging out of his head. It was clear that he was really struggling and we were really scared that he was going to stop breathing all together. We called 911, but thankfully, by the time the ambulance arrived 15 minutes later, he was breathing normally again. I did take him in to the ER and the pediatrician later that morning and he checked out perfectly. He had not aspirated anything into his lungs, and we haven't had any more episodes like it! But he is now on reflux medicine, a probiotic and I'm dairy-free. He does seem a little less fussy, so maybe one or all of those things are working for him, or maybe he's just gotten older?!? Who knows?!?

It's difficult to know if Bode has reached any real milestones at this point, except that he is a champion eater and is growing like a weed. At 1 month old, he weighed 9 pounds, 15 ounces, which is up 2 pounds from his birth weight. He likes tummy time, which is a nice change from his siblings, and he holds his head up well. He also loves the pacifier, the ergo, and he takes a bottle well!

We are loving our newest little love, and hoping he gives us a little more rest before his 2 month birthday! :)

Newborn Pictures!

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Bode's newborn pictures! They will be plastered all over our house!

Late Spring Activities

We've had to slow down quite a bit since Bode's been born. Having 4 kids, one of them being a newborn who doesn't sleep well, has been quite the adjustment for all of us. I've also taken fewer pictures! But here are some of the things we've been up to during the last few weeks of spring.

Mia and I went to the Garth Brooks concert the weekend before Bode was born!

Skol Garth!

Darius Rucker opened for GB.

Bergen takes such good care of her younger cousin!

Kylie and Quinn at 18 months old.

Quinn's first ponytail!

Family trip to Target!
We had to make a trip through the toy aisles!

We spent one day during Memorial Day weekend up at our new lake house.
The water was freezing but that didn't stop the kids from swimming all day!

Jon and Tony put the dock in! YAY!

And we celebrated Bergen's 5th birthday, which was May 30th!

Quinn has keep her puddle jumpers on for safety reasons.
Thankfully she's obsessed with them and doesn't like to take them off at all!

Last day of school.

Last day of Kindergarten.

Last day of 2nd grade.

This is the time of year when medical residents and fellows come and go.
One of our dear friends, Leslie Antiel (far right), is leaving this year after 12 years in Rochester.
Her husband did medical school, research, and residency at Mayo.

It was a crazy, sleep-deprived, wonderful spring! Next up: SUMMER!

Bode Jonathan Barlow

It was a normal Wednesday afternoon in the beginning of May. I was frantically trying to get things done around the house because I knew we'd be having a baby within the next week or so. I was having some weird leaking, but it was only occasionally happening so I wasn't too concerned about it. I decided to play it safe and have it checked out, but really thought I'd be sent home. I went in to the OB triage at about 5pm. They tested my fluid around 5:45pm and the results came back negative for amniotic fluid at about 6:30pm. I called Jon and told him I'd likely be coming home, but could potentially be in labor because while there, I started to have stronger than usual contractions that were occuring fairly regularly, and I was starting to have bigger gushes of fluid. At about 7pm, the nurse and doctor decided to check my fluid again and also check to see if I was in active labor. Surprisingly the fluid came back negative again, but I was dilated to 7cm. At this point, the contractions were getting painful, and I knew I was having the baby that night. I called Jon again at 7:15pm, and told him he better hurry up and get there. He got to the hospital around 7:30, I had the epidural placed around 7:45pm and Bode Jonathan was born at 8:28pm after just 3 pushes! He had a head full of dark hair, and he weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and was 21.5 inches long.
