We arrived on Friday afternoon, and immediately hooked up with my old college roommate, Shaina, and Jon's old medical school roommate, Nick. They are both in NYC for work. Shaina does something in finance (sorry, Shaina, I have no clue what you do), and Nick is doing his shoulder and elbow fellowship there. We had a drink at the hotel bar, and then headed to Bill's Bar and Burger for dinner! It was so great to see those two and catch up! It made me feel young again! Sadly, I was too chatty to take any pictures! Boo! Rob and Sari arrive later that evening, and we were able to sit and talk with them for a little bit before bed.
On Saturday morning, Jon and Rob headed off to their course, so Sari and I loaded up the kids (Hugh, Kylie, and Brooks...She left Witt and Helen in FL with Rob's parents), and trekked up to Rebecca's apartment. It was about a 30 minute walk, and it was so fun to walk around in NYC. It always feels so surreal to be there! After meeting up with Rebecca, we picked up bagels at Cafe Fresco and headed over to a nearby park so the Kylie and Ella could play. We stayed there for an hour or so before heading off on our next adventure to Dylan's Candy Store! For all you candy lovers, this was candy heaven. Think 3 floors of floor to ceiling candy in stacks, towers, and piles! There was every single kind of candy you could possibly think of...It was a little over-priced but so worth it! After our candy store adventure, we picked up some New York style pizza and walked back to Rebecca's apartment so the kids could nap and the ladies could chat. Tim is doing his sports fellowship in NYC, and he is a team doctor for the NY Mets baseball team. So later that day, we went to a Mets game. We had to ride the subway to get there, which was a fun experience in itself. I can't remember if the Mets won or lost, but it doesn't matter because we had a blast! The boys finished up at their course and were able to join us for dinner. We ate supper at an Italian restaurant called Mediterraneo, and spent the end of the evening hanging out with our dear friends at Tim and Rebecca's apartment. We kept the kids out a little late, but it was so worth it for a little bit of extra time with friends!
Sunday, we rose bright and early, said bye to the Hartzlers, and drove back to Philly! The time went way too fast, but it was so amazing to get to see our friends again! I can't wait for the next time!
